Winter CSA Share: 12 Weeks

U-Pick

Strawberries and blueberries in summer. Right now it is pumpkins in the lower field and late apples in the orchard, through October 31. Pay by the pound at the store.

Farm-Stay Cabin

A one-room cabin at the edge of the orchard for up to four, with a kitchenette, a wood stove, and eggs from the coop for breakfast. Check-in from 3pm.

Farm Tour & Tasting

Ninety minutes through the fields, the hoop houses, and the hens with one of the family, then a tasting board in the barn. Saturdays and Sundays at 11. Kids under 12 free.

Farm Store

Open whenever the gate is. Eggs, honey, preserves, cut flowers until the first frost, and whatever came out of the ground that morning.

Harvest Supper

One long table in the barn, four courses, everything grown within sight of it. About every other Friday through the fall, 5:30pm, 24 seats. Wine from the neighbors is extra.

Our story

Three generations in the same soil

My grandparents cleared these twenty acres in 1948 and grew plums and hops on most of it. My parents switched to vegetables in the eighties, and I started the share in 2006 with thirty families and a borrowed walk-in cooler. The summer share feeds about 180 households now, and the winter share, which only exists because of the hoop houses, feeds seventy. My son Eli runs the fields. I run the store and cook the suppers. We are not certified organic, and we don't spray synthetics either. Walk any row you like and ask what went on it.

Two nights in the cabin in October. The wood stove had the place warm in ten minutes and the eggs were on the step at seven. The bed is on the firm side.

The 3 to 7 pickup window is tight when you work in Salem and 99W is backed up. They will hold a box till 7:30 if you call, which has saved me twice.
